Marzadro Marena (Cherry & Fine Red Wine Liqueur) 70CL
Born from the ashes and poverty of post WW2 Northern Italy, Marzadro Distillery was not an overnight success. Bored with her job as a domestic servant, Sabina Marzadro founded the business in 1949. It was a hard slog but Sabina had two big things in her favour: Pristine botanicals of Italy’s alpine Trentio region and a burning desire to make great grappa.
Slowly but surely Marzadro perfected their skills, developing some of Italy’s finest grappas and adding liqueurs, amaro, whisky, cremes and herbal distillations along the way.
Nowadays run by Sabina’s grandchildren, Marzadro is based in the beautiful mediaeval mountain village of Nogaredo, nestled in the Dolomites just north of Lake Garda. Their drinks are top quality, commanding massive respect in Italy’s hard to impress distilling sector. Artifex hold by far the UK’s biggest range of their products. Get some.
Tasting Notes
Marzadro Pellerossa presents a deep amber colour that hints at its maturity and complex profile. On the nose, intense notes of natural honey emerge instantly, accompanied by subtle undertones of vanilla, warm baking spices, and fruit characteristics such as candied apricot and baked apple. The palate is velvety, rich, and smooth, offering an exceptional balance between the inherent sweetness of honey and the robust, woody structure of aged rum. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a warm, comforting aftertaste of honey and soft spice that invites another sip.
Distilling Methods
Pellerossa is crafted using an ancient recipe reimagined with a modern twist. The foundation of the spirit relies on premium sugarcane molasses distillates, featuring a rum component aged for up to 12 years in oak barrels to develop depth and structure. This aged rum is then masterfully combined with exquisite, aromatic honey sourced directly from traditional Trentino apiculture.

Serving & Cocktail Suggestions
To experience its intense flavour to the fullest, Pellerossa should be enjoyed over ice in a medium-sized glass, served at an ideal temperature of 0°C. It functions beautifully as an elegant after-dinner digestif or an adventurous aperitif. For cocktails, it acts as an excellent base for a twist on a classic Old Fashioned or a honeyed Rum Sour, adding both complexity and natural sweetness.
Food Pairings
This liqueur pairs wonderfully with rich desserts. It is an exceptional companion to dark chocolate tarts, warm apple crumbles, or artisanal fruit cakes. For a savoury contrast, try matching it with mature, sharp blue cheeses or aged cheeses from the alpine region, where the honeyed sweetness perfectly cuts through the salt and creaminess.
