2000 metres above sea level in Mexico’s Jalisco state lie the Jalisco highlands and perhaps the world’s richest terroir for Blue Weber Agave. It was here that French ex-pat Sophie Decobecq founded Calle 23, distiller of some of Mexico’s finest tequila. Using her background of Biochemistry and Engineering, over a six year period, Sophie gradually developed the legendary Calle 23 tequilas that the world enjoys today.
European precision and French flair meets pristine Mexican Blue Agave for a match made in heaven. Jalisco’s highland tequilas are lighter, more floral and fruity than those from the lowlands and Calle 23’s are front and centre here.

Calle 23 Añejo Tequila is a 100% blue Weber agave spirit featuring 40% ABV and a 70 cl bottle size. It delivers rich notes of vanilla, coffee, and oak, crafted through artisanal highland distilling methods.

Tasting Notes

•    Nose: Freshly baked vanilla, warm oak, ripe banana, and toasted almond complement hints of caramel and cinnamon.
•    Palate: A velvety oak-driven body with black pepper and cinnamon is supported by the sweetness of cooked agave.
•    Finish: Creamy and lingering, featuring caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, and baked agave, closing with a subtle minty freshness.

Distilling Methods

After seven years of maturity, Blue Agave hearts (piñas) are cooked at low pressure in stainless steel autoclaves before undergoing double distillation in stainless steel pot stills using custom-selected yeast strains. The spirit is then aged for 16 months in ex-bourbon oak casks previously used in Kentucky.

Serving Suggestions and Cocktails

•    Neat: Sip it neat at room temperature in a copita to fully appreciate the complex agave and wood integration.
•    Old Fashioned Twist: Mix with a dash of agave nectar and orange bitters over a large ice block to accentuate the coffee and dark chocolate undertones.

Food Pairings

•    Main Course: Pair with slow-roasted pork belly or grilled flank steak, where the savoury caramel and char notes match the rich meat.
•    Dessert: Enjoy alongside dark chocolate truffles, flan, or pecan pie to highlight the vanilla and mocha qualities of the spirit.
