The French have many talents, but agriculture and food and drink are surely at the top.

So who says they can’t do whisky?  Rozelieurs combines these skills to produce one of the finest ranges of whisky out there.  From the bountiful slopes of the long extinct volcano Roselieurs, the Dupic family are farmers first and foremost (9th generation on the land) and distillers second (6th generation since 1890).

As farmers they have command of a superb terroir in the Grand-Est region of North East France and are one of a very small handful of single estate whisky distilleries in the world, controlling every single aspect of production.  Grain, malting, brewing, distillation, everything  is in house and that allows a fanatical obsession with quality to play out in their whisky.  Roselieurs are the second oldest whisky distillery in France so they’ve had plenty of time to perfect their art.

The French know their stuff.  Go and do likewise.

Rozelieures Rare French Single Malt Whisky is a 40% ABV, 70 cl field-to-bottle estate spirit from France with honeyed fruit and gentle smoke.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Very flattering on orchard fruits and honey. In a second phase, it is the candied orange and the walnut that stand out.
  • Palate: Still a lot of greediness on candied fruits with a liquorish touch. The malty and toasted notes bring a great richness.
  • Finish: Long on red fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) with a touch of smoke and toasted notes.

Serving and Cocktail Suggestions

  • Neat or with a Drop: Serve at room temperature in a classic whisky glass, or add a single drop of water to open up the sweet malt and honey layers.
  • On the Rocks: Pour over one large clear ice cube to mellow the sweet fruit notes for a relaxed evening sip.
  • French Orchard Highball: Mix fifty millilitres of the whisky with chilled apple cider and a slice of fresh orange over ice.

Food Pairings

  • Aged Comté Cheese: The nutty and savoury profile of hard mountain cheese complements the toasted malt and walnut aromas.
  • Dark Chocolate Truffles: Rich cocoa brings out the subtle smoky finish and dark berry undertones.
  • Smoked Duck Breast: The savoury, delicate smoke of the meat mirrors the soft wisps of peat smoke in the spirit.
