Alpe Amaro - A Story of Alpine Craft

Rooted in the Valleys of the Aosta Alps

Distilleria Alpe is a small, fiercely local producer based in the mountain town of Hône, deep in the Val d’Aosta in Italy’s far north‑west. Here, surrounded by steep alpine slopes and crisp mountain air, the distillery continues a tradition of crafting infusions and distillations inspired entirely by the land that surrounds it.

An Amaro Born From the Mountains

Alpe Amaro is built on more than twenty herbs, roots and flowers gathered from the region, gentian, artemisia (genepy), mint and other alpine botanicals that thrive in the short, intense summer. These are combined with bitter roots such as rhubarb to create a profile that is unmistakably mountain‑driven: aromatic, herbal and confidently bitter.

Harvested by Hand, Crafted With Patience

Each August, the alpine herbs are picked at their peak, then carefully dried to preserve their natural character. They are infused in pure alcohol alongside the other botanicals for around a month, a slow, deliberate process that draws out depth, colour and complexity.

Distillation for Clarity and Persistence

Once the infusion is complete, part of the liquid is re‑distilled. This step sharpens the flavour, enhances the aromatic persistence and naturally clarifies the final liqueur. Spring water from the surrounding mountains and a measured amount of sugar are added before bottling at 38% ABV.

A Distinctively Bitter Alpine Expression

Compared with the distillery’s gentler Lys amaro, Alpe is intentionally more bitter, a reflection of the rugged landscape and the botanicals that define it. It is a drink that speaks clearly of its origins: crisp mountain herbs, cool alpine breezes and the quiet strength of the Aosta Valley.
