In 1871, three English sailors, tired of life at sea arrived and worked here for decades. Their names were Jefferson, Roger and Gil and these are names of some of Vecchio’s finest creations. Legend has it that the Englishmen began distilling here and a long tradition of locally produced spirits was born.

The details of this story are lost to time, but what isn’t under dispute is the incredible quality of Vecchio’s drinks. It’s good country in Consenza with a broad range of local botanicals from sun drenched coastal plains to high altitude mountain terroir and these have enabled Vecchio to produce a fine and varied range of wonderful spirits. Our suggestion? Try them all!

Tasting Notes

Nose: An inviting and complex aroma leads with deep earthy tones of gentian and aromatic rhubarb. These initial herbal scents blend seamlessly into rich notes of bitter orange and preserved candied citrus peel, rounded off by a subtle hint of spicy wormwood and a distinctive, refreshing balsamic base.

Palate: The entry on the tongue reveals a bold, structured dryness where the tannic properties of quassia and gentian establish a firm bitter foundation. This bitterness quickly harmonises with the bright fruitiness of local Calabrian oranges, introducing a delicate botanical sweetness that balances the spirit perfectly.

Finish: The finale is impressively long, clean, and dry. It leaves trailing, warming hints of dark regional spices, persistent roots, and a lingering touch of sweet liquorice that beautifully softens the final bitter impression.

Product Description

AMARO MANFREDI is a beautifully crafted historic Italian digestif bottled at 25% ABV and presented in a traditional 70 cl bottle.

Estate History & Distilling Methods

The recipe itself is a historic formula that has been masterfully redeveloped.
To capture the true essence of the region, the finest botanicals, including locally harvested liquorice, chinchona, gentian, rhubarb, and native citrus fruits such as bergamot, are hand-selected at optimal ripeness.
